Sources are saying that Megyn Kelly’s first interview on NBC might be with Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin.

NBC News chairman Andy Lack has been in Russia this week, trying to land an interview with Putin, reports Page Six. But if the journalism gods shine down and grant him an interview, who, then, will he pass it on to?

Matt Lauer? Lester Holt? Megyn Kelly?

According to insiders, it’s not clear.

“Andy Lack has been in Russia having meetings to land an interview with Putin,” a source said to Page Six. They went on to say that Lack’s Russian trip was on the back of a tour of NBC’s European bureaus and meetings in Lyon, France, with Euronews, which NBC acquired a 25 percent stake of in February as part of their hopes to compete with CNN.

In other words, if NBC lands an interview with Putin, it will stream across nearly 300 million homes in Europe, Africa, and the Middles East, as well as in North America. Sounds like a pretty good incentive if you’re the leader of communist Russia, eh?

“It is not clear who would do the Putin interview. News chiefs decide based on who would be best for the job. This isn’t Megyn’s interview — yet,” the source added.

Seeing as there’s an FBI investigation into possible links between the Trump campaign and Russia, not to mention the Syrian missile crisis, a Putin interview will undoubtedly be viewed by loads of people, giving Megyn an international premiere.

This fall, Megyn is expected to launch her daytime NBC show at either 9 or 10 a.m. She will also be doing a Sunday night show this summer, and is already staffing up.
