The upcoming Lifetime biopic about Britney Spears Britney Ever After is getting fans super antsy. Many of them hate the trailer, while many can’t get enough and are super stoked to see it.

One person who is very stoked is Australian actress Natasha Bassett, who plays the Princess of Pop herself in the film.

“I received an audition just as I was heading out to London to visit family. I had no script, and her name was Jenny Jean, and for some reason I thought it was set in the ’50s—so I had no idea the movie was about Britney Spears,” Natasha said in an interview with Vogue.

Natasha was eager to play the role, and only had one week to get ready!

“I found the documentary that she made, For the Record, to be extremely helpful for me to understand her journey,” she explained. “That was on my earphones every second when I wasn’t rehearsing or filming. I was able to study that and obsess over her movements, her facial expressions, her tone of voice, and because it was a documentary that she produced about her own life, it was a really honest portrayal… When you’re playing someone who is still with us and can view the work that you’re doing, you just want to do them justice.

“I hope Britney watches it; I hear she’s a fan of Lifetime!” she said. “For me, the reason why I did this movie is that I think it’s a feminist story at its core. It shines a positive light on how strong Britney is and what a great human being she is. She’s not only one of the world’s most powerful performers, she’s also a mother to two gorgeous sons and she has a residency in Vegas, so it shines a light to all these positive attributes of her personality. I hope she sees that.”

When it came to fan hate, she said, “I tried to stay away from the media when it was announced because I knew that fans weren’t all going to be happy.”
