Is Megyn Kelly Taking the Lead ‘Today’ Anchor Chair, Next to Matt Lauer?

Hollywood Holler has been following the Megyn Kelly Today developments as best we can. As we previously reported, Tamron Hall had left Today to make way for newcomer Megyn Kelly. Now, Page Six is reporting Megyn might also be pushing Savannah Guthrie off her chair.

Sources are saying Megyn is likely to take the lead role on Today with Matt Lauer, a seat currently occupied by Savannah (who is on maternity leave), who might be bumped to another role, or downgrade to Tamron’s old 9 a.m. slot.

WHAT!

“NBC is not paying Megyn $12 to $15 million a year to be on at 9 a.m,” the source said. “The word is that Savannah could take the 9 a.m. slot and Megyn will go right in at 7 a.m. Andy Lack is completely behind all of this. There’s no way Megyn would have signed with NBC unless she was promised a big role down the line.”

“If you’re Savannah, you’re looking over your shoulder every minute,” another source chimed in. “The first time Savannah is out, Megyn will fill in, sitting next to Matt Lauer and NBC will go to great lengths to capitalize on it. It doesn’t make sense to pay Megyn that kind of money unless she’s on at 7 a.m.,”

But just to be clear, NBC execs say this is not the case. As senior vice president Noah Oppenheim said to Page Six, “Let me say this [the whole fight for the chair] for the last time and as clearly as possible: This is never ever going to happen.”
