Billy Bush is Still Bitter That Matt Lauer Didn’t Support Him During Trump Scandal

Billy Bush’s life changed forever four years ago, when a videotape was leaked to the Washington Post where he and Trump are chatting behind the scenes.

Billy was abruptly fired from the Today show after the 2005 tape was leaked showing Donald Trump bragging to him about groping women. Billy was heard laughing at his comments.

Billy has since spoken out about regretting laughing at his comment, but he also has other regrets.

“I’m not going to give [you] a pandering answer,” Billy told Men’s Health in the November 2020 issue. “I’m sorry. I can’t.”

At the time of his firing from NBC, Billy had been working for the Today show for about two months and had covered the 2016 Olympics that summer.

While Billy thought he had Matt’s support to remain on the show amid the scandal, he was “deeply” hurt that Matt “didn’t fight” for him.

“That he didn’t fight for me is so deeply hurtful because I’ve known him for absolutely ever,” he said.

A year later, Matt was fired for alleged inappropriate sexual behavior.

“People texted and called me making comments like he got what he deserved,” Billy told People magazine in January 2018. “But there is no joy in the demise of others … no matter who it is.”

Well, at least Billy is back on his feet again. Thanks for being so honest, Billy.
