Tommy Mottola Speaks Out About Mariah Carey’s New Book

Mariah Carey has a new book that promises to include juicy details about her rags-to-riches story.

Even though it’s sure to include stories about her ex, Tommy Mottola, the music executive told Page Six that he’ll always have love for the singer.

Mariah and Tommy first met in 1988 and were married in 1993, before separating in 1997. During their relationship, she had 15 No. 1 hits and 200 million albums sold worldwide.

“I am deeply gratified to have played that role in Mariah’s well-deserved and remarkable success, and continue to wish her and her family only the very best,” he told the outlet about her book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

In his own 2013 book, Hitmaker: The Man and his Music, Tommy apologized to Mariah, writing that the relationship was “absolutely wrong.”

“If it seemed like I was controlling, let me apologize again. Was I obsessive? Yes. But that was also part of the reason for her success,” he wrote of the relationship. “The problem was that I was the chairman of Sony and her husband at the same time.”

As we previously reported, Mariah spoke with Oprah Winfrey recently and said that Derek Jeter was the catalyst behind her leaving Tommy.

“He was a catalyst … that helped me get out of that relationship [with Tommy], because I believed that there was somebody else,” she said.

Well, we can’t wait to read this book!
