Mariah Carey on Ellen DeGeneres Outing Her Pregnancy in 2008 Interview

Mariah Carey is opening up about how Ellen DeGeneres revealed her pregnancy in a decade-old interview.

While speaking with Vulture, the singer said she felt “extremely uncomfortable” after Ellen outed her pregnancy.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” she said.

During the interview, Ellen asked Mariah to confirm or deny tabloid rumors that she and then-husband Nick Cannon were expecting.

While the singer laughed off the question and attempted to change the subject, Ellen did not back down and even offered her a glass of champagne to prove if she was pregnant.

“This is peer pressure,” the singer said as the audience laughed.

When Mariah did a fake sip, Ellen shouted, “You’re pregnant!”

It wasn’t until two years later that Mariah confirmed she was pregnant at the time of the interview. Sadly, she miscarried soon after.

Of course, she and Nick welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan, now 9, in 2011.

“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone [of my feelings about the interview] because I had had a miscarriage,” she told Vulture. “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

Mariah went on to say that she wishes “empathy” had “been implemented” at the time. “But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, ‘What are you going to do?'”

Dang. Watch the video above and tell us you don’t have second-hand embarrassment. We feel you, Mariah.
