Amid Britney Spears’s ongoing conservatorship battle, the American Civil Liberties Union is stepping up to help.

The pop star is pleading for the courts to remove her father, Jamie Spears, as her sole conservator. However, on Friday the judge extended the arrangement for at least another six months.

People with disabilities have a right to lead self-directed lives and retain their civil rights.

Britney has been living under the legal arrangement since her infamous 2008 meltdown.

However, a recent fan-led #FreeBritney movement is insisting that she’s trapped against her will. Her lawyer said in court documents earlier this week that Britney was “strongly opposed to having [Jamie] return as the conservator of her person.”
