Halle Berry has decided not to play a transgender man in an upcoming film, after activists and allies called her out for misgendering the character in a recent interview.

Last week, the actress appeared in an Instagram Live with hairstylist Christin Brown, and when revealing details about the character, she misspoke.

“The woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man,” she told Christin, adding, “I want to experience and understand and study and explore” that world.

GLAAD, which promotes LGBTQ+ equality in media, tweeted in response to Halle’s apology.
