Spongebob Squarepants Came Out on Twitter

Is this a coming out or are we overthinking it?

According to a Pride Month tweet from the official Nickelodeon Twitter account, Spongebob Squarepants may have come out as queer.

“Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month,” the network tweeted alongside rainbow-embossed art of the character with Korra from The Legend of Korra, who is bisexual, and the transgender actor Michael D. Cohen from Henry Danger.

Clearly they’re making sure we know Spongebob is part of their LGBTQ+ family, right?

In one 2002 episode called “Rock-a-Bye Bivalve,” Spongebob and his best friend Patrick parent an abandoned scallop like a married couple. That was the first sign of Spongebob’s supposed identity.

We don’t know about you, but we’re happy for it!
