Eminem is 12 Years Sober This Week

A huge congrats is in order for Eminem, who is marking a tremendous milestone this week.

As of yesterday, the 47-year-old rapper has been 12 years clean. He honored it with a photo of his new sobriety coin.

“Clean dozen, in the books! I’m not afraid,” he captioned the Instagram picture, referencing his song “Not Afraid,” which detailed his battle with addiction and recovery.

Of course, he’s been open about his past struggle with Vicodin, Ambien, Valium and methadone. In 2007, he overdosed on methadone after taking nondescript blue pills that he received from someone, according to the New York Times.

“I didn’t know it was methadone. I used to get pills wherever I could,” he told the paper in 2010. “I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.”

We’re so proud of you, Eminem. Thanks for being a role model.
