Katie Holmes on the Support She Had Raising Suri, Following Tom Cruise Divorce

When Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise split in 2012, life wasn’t exactly easy for the actress raising her now-13-year-old daughter, Suri.

“That time was intense,” Katie recently told InStyle. “It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. [Suri and I] had some funny moments out and about in public.”

The Dawson’s Creek star added that she “actually cried” when a “kind” cab driver helped her carry her sleeping daughter to their building at the time.

“Suri was 6 or 7, and she was spending the night at a friend’s house while I was seeing the ballet at Lincoln Center,” she explained. “At 10, I got a call: ‘Mommy, can you come get me?’ I got a cab and went down to Battery Park to pick her up. She was exhausted. She fell asleep on the way home, and when we pulled up to our building, the cab driver opened the door and helped me not wake her.”

Katie and Tom welcomed Suri in 2005 then filed for divorce in 2012. In fact, Tom’s ex Nicole Kidman offered Katie “her support and help” at the time.

A source told Us Weekly around that time, “They’ve spoken over the last few weeks. Nicole has been supportive, saying she’s been through it too and to hang in there.”

If this isn’t a testament to motherhood, nothing is. We gotta stick together!
