Ricky Gervais is famous for making jokes that go below the belt, but apparently his partner Jane Fallon tried to get him to tone them down this year.

Ricky admitted on the red carpet yesterday that he also runs jokes by Jimmy Fallon before the big night.

“A couple of times I’ve said, ‘Nope, please don’t,’” Jimmy told Ryan Seacrest about a few of Ricky’s jokes.

Ricky chimed in about Jane: “That’s what she says — she says, ‘Please don’t.’ She uses emotional blackmail.”

Nonetheless, Ricky said that most of the jokes are run by legal so there is nothing to worry about.

“The lawyers see it and I don’t think they’ve ever asked me not to do something,” he said to Ryan. “I don’t break the law, I don’t libel anyone… I’m going to say awful things. I’m going to do the same old thing I always do, I just hope they’re more used to it now. That’s my extreme sport. Some people do drugs, some people jump out of planes.”

Well… judging from last night, we think he probably got away — yet again — this year. Do you think he should return next year?
