‘Rocketman’ Star Taron Egerton on Elton John: He Can Be ‘Vulnerable and Shy’
Taron Egerton played Elton John in the hit biopic Rocketman, and now he’s getting lots of Oscar buzz!
The young actor got to know the rock star quite well and apparently learned a few things about him along the way.
“There’s a lovely quality of vulnerability that he has,” Taron told People magazine. “Sometimes, even now, he can be uncertain of himself, even with all of that massive success and all of those accolades, all that universal acclaim.”
He adds, “It’s a weird kind of duality. He can be incredibly kind of gregarious and confident, but in the same instant he can also seem very vulnerable and shy.”
The actor explained that when he was auditioning for the role, Elton’s opinion was the only one that mattered. Thankfully, the icon was already a fan and gave his blessing soon after he heard him singing.
“He knew I could sing, but he hadn’t heard me,” Taron added.
