Following her American Music Awards performance, Selena Gomez received a bit of backlash for delivering a shaky performance. However, People magazine is reporting that the singer suffered a panic attack just before hitting the stage.

“She definitely had a panic attack. She was nervous. She hasn’t been on stage in two years, and it’s an important song in her career,” a source told the outlet. “She really wanted to deliver.”

It was her first live television performance in two years, and apparently the panic attack hit “at the last minute” and “it threw her off. She did sound better at rehearsal.”

Still, “She had fun afterwards with her friends and family and was in good spirits,” the source added.
