Severely Burned Dog Gets Support From Genius Vet… And Fish Skins!

Our hearts melted this weekend when we learned about Archer, a dog from Alaska who was severely burned when his house burned down.

As People reports, firefighters arrived on the scene and found Archer covered in flames. He became so frightened when officials tried to help him that he ran away. Luckily, Archie was found shortly after the fire and was immediately rushed to the vet.

Dr. Michelle Oakley, star of the National Geographic show Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet ended up providing care to him when he was visibly burned all over his body.

Dr. Oakley drove Archer seven hours to California, where she was going anyway, to the nearest vet that could treat his injuries.

He later started recovery with Dr. Oakley herself: “We started with bandage changes and set up burn unit in my office in town, since we needed a sterile environment where you can keep everything clean,” she told People magazine.

The vet ultimately decided to cover Archer in fish skin, which gave him a scaly look and earned him the name “Archer the Dragonslayer.”

Turns out, the fish skins were just the thing Archie needed! They ultimately gave him the immune boost that helped his skin to rebuild.
