Dave Chappelle To Receive The Mark Twain Prize Award For Comedy

A major congrats is in order for Dave Chappelle!

The star is the latest to receive the Mark Twain prize for lifetime achievement in comedy, the highest award a comedian can receive.

The ceremony is taking place at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. on January 7 and will be streamed on PBS.

It’s a full circle moment for Dave, who was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland (a suburb of D.C.). He also filmed his first HBO special in the capital.

Of course, Dave burst onto the scene with his Comedy Central show Chappelle’s Show, which pushed the boundaries of comedy and musical sketch comedy.

As the show was preparing for its third season, the comedian disappeared off the radar and hightailed it to Africa, later saying that the show’s popularity made him feel “like some kind of a prostitute,” as Page Six reports.

This year, the announced guests at the ceremony include Trevor Noah, Jon Stewart, Tiffany Haddish, John Legend, Bradley Cooper, and Morgan Freeman.

Such a fabulous honor. Congrats, Dave!
