TMZ Fires Van Lathan After Getting Physical With Michael Babcock

TMZ veteran Van Lathan has been fired from the celebrity gossip news show, and according to Page Six the drama behind it is pretty deep.

Page Six reports that after shooting a segment for TMZ Live withco-host Michael Babcock that there would be trouble between them if Michael “ever embarrassed [Van] like that again.”

Once the segment was over, Van had returned and put his hand around Michael’s throat. While TMZ never published the claim since there was no evidence, pictures emerged yesterday clearly confirming that Van had gotten physical. That’s when they decided to fire him.

Page Six reports that TMZ sources said Van would never have gotten fired if it weren’t for the physical altercation.

“He walked all the way across the room, came from behind [Michael] and grabbed him,” an insider said to Page Six.

“According to someone who’s seen the tape,” reports the outlet, “[Van] said something to the effect of, ‘I’m going to speak now,’ and [Michael] replied with something to the effect of, ‘You’re not telling me when I can talk and when I can’t.’”

Can’t we all just get along, y’all? It’s celebrity news — not brain surgery.

Still, putting your hands on someone is a total no-no. Hopefully Van learned his lesson, but it’s a little too late.
