Meredith Vieira Hasn’t Spoken to Matt Lauer Since He Was Fired From The ‘Today’ Show

Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira are not on good terms, it seems.

Apparently, Meredith never spoke to Matt again after he was fired from the Today show, which they both co-anchored successfully together for five years.

According to People, magazine, the once-close pair lost touch in the aftermath of Matt’s sexual assault allegations. The claims have been chronicled even further in Ronan Farrow’s new book, Catch and Kill.

“Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira never spoke again since his firing,” a source told the outlet.

Ronan reports in the book that Meredith’s former assistant, Brooke Nevils, claims she was anally raped by Matt in a Sochi hotel in 2014.

According to reports, Brooke had been on assignment with Meredith — who had left Today in 2011 but returned for Olympic coverage — when Matt invited her back to his hotel room.

Years later, Brooke ended up telling Meredith what had happened. The book also says that it was Meredith who encouraged Brooke to report the incident in 2017 to NBC, which ultimately led to Matt’s firing.

Matt denied the allegations in a statement released last week.

“Today, nearly two years after I was fired by NBC, old stories are being recycled, titillating details are being added, and a dangerous and defamatory new allegation is being made,” he said in an open letter. “All are being spread as part of a promotional effort to sell a book. It’s outrageous. So, after not speaking out to protect my children, it is now with their full support I say ‘enough.’”
