Michelle Wiliams recently said in a new interview with Vulture that she couldn’t shake being typecast after her role on the beloved series Dawson’s Creek.

“When I got out of television, it felt like a stain on you,” she said “It was hard work to erase it and to ask to be looked at in a different new way.”

Of course, she went on to nab four Oscar nominations throughout her career. But that didn’t stop her from feeling taken advantage of as a young star.

“Scripts come at you and you have no say. You feel like an eternal child,” she explained. “I was afraid of putting myself in a position where I was going to commit to something and then eventually be asked to do something that I didn’t want to do.”

Now, she’s starring in FX’s Fosse/Verdon. Not bad!
