Casey Affleck Says He Supports #MeToo Despite His Own Sexual Harassment Allegations

Casey Affleck hasn’t been the best role model for #MeToo after sexual harassment allegations against him plagued his Oscar nomination a couple years ago. Now, he’s opening up about it.

“Who would not be supportive of the #MeToo movement? That’s an idea that’s even out there?” he asked rhetorically, on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “That there are some people saying, ‘We do not believe in equality. We think the workplace should be a dangerous place for certain people and not for others.’ That’s preposterous.”

“But it is very, very hard to talk about, and it scares me,” he continued. “Mostly because the values of the #MeToo movement are values that are at the heart of my being; just the way I was raised, they are baked into my own value system … ”

Right, but… here’s the deal:

Producer Amanda White accused the actor of making “unwanted sexual advances” toward her while filming 2010’s I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix.

In her $2 million lawsuit, Amanda claimed that Casey used her bedroom to have sex with other women, and even sent her “abusive” text messages when she refused to share a room with him.

She also alleges that he ordered a crew member to expose himself to her against her will. The film’s cinematographer Magdalena Gorka also sued him, accusing him of coming into her bed and touching her without her consent while she was asleep.
