NBC Was Apparently Pissed At Adam Levine Before His Abrupt Exit From ‘The Voice’
As we previously reported, Adam Levine will no longer be on The Voice despite his making numerous promotional appearances. According to NBC, it was long foreshadowed.
According to a source at TVLine, a few months ago when the cast was pre-taping Season 16’s Semifinals, it was clear that Adam did NOT want to be there. Nor did he want to attend the NBC upfronts the following day as well.
Adam was apparently pissed that he had to be there despite the fact that he had no artists left in the Season at that time. One eyewitness told TVLine that Adam was “very difficult” during the taping and even refused to offer commentary to the other performers.
Still, during the episode that aired on May 13, he praised Blake Shelton’s team member Andrew Sevener, John Legend’s team members Maelyn Jarmon and Shawn Sounds, and Kelly Clarkson’s team member Rod Stokes.
Furthermore, Adam told Rod, referring to the show’s change that didn’t guarantee each coach went to the Live Playoffs with the same number of team members: “I still don’t understand how you’re not on my team. I don’t think anybody does, just ’cause it’s weird how it works now. I’m still learning the rules of the new show.”
At the upfronts, it was apparent by his boring performance that he was over it.
“Adam had been checked out for a while,” an NBC insider who attended the upfronts told Page Six. “But this was a new low. It was essentially the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
One insider said that Paul Telegdy, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, was “embarrassed” and “furious” that he had such an attitude in front of potential advertisers (which is the whole point of the upfronts).
Oh and did we mention that The Voice pays Adam $26 million a year?! According to Page Six, one source said that Paul demanded Adam be fired on the spot.
But, as of this week, Adam put his foot down with a statement that he will no longer be returning. Read his statement below:
