JFK Jr. Has A New Biography Coming Out, 20 Years After His Death

It’s been 20 years since the death of John F. Kennedy Jr. shocked the world. Now, his good friend, historian Steven M. Gillon, is writing a new biography that’s sure to be a page-turner.

Steven gave People magazine a first look at the upcoming book, America’s Reluctant Prince: The Life of John F. Kennedy Jr., as well as the A&E documentary it inspired.

The book will be published on July 9, while the documentary, Biography: JFK Jr. — The Final Year, will be released on the anniversary of his death, July 16.

“I was haunted by John’s death. It still hurts,” Steven says in the documentary. The author first met John at Brown University and was friends with him for decades.

John and his wife Carolyn Bessette, a publicist for Calvin Klein, as well as her sister Lauren, died when a plane piloted by John crashed off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, killing all aboard.

“Writing a book about John involves not only getting access to documents that no one has seen before — it also involves talking to people who have never spoken about John before,” Steven said. “And I took John and I put him under the microscope. It’s only been now, as I go through this process, that I’m rediscovering him.”
