Rob Lowe is truly a man of his time, so one can say his 1988 sex tape was kinda… trailblazing? Well he certainly thinks so. The actor recently opened up about the tape on an episode of WTF Podcast with Marc Maron.

“The real f–k up was that I didn’t wait 20 years later to do it where it would have helped my career,” he quipped.

Of course, nearly 20 years later celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton have turned their respective sex tapes into lucrative careers.

In case you forgot, the then-24-year-old Rob made headlines after he taped himself having sex with a girl who was only 14 (at the time, 14 was the age of consent in Georgia). The act happened in an Atlanta hotel room the night before Rob supported Michael Dukakis at the 1988 Democratic National Convention.

At least he can laugh about it now — who knows what a tape like that would do for his career had it been released in today’s #MeToo era.
