Charles Barkley To America: ‘Do Not Commit Crimes With Checks’

Charles Barkley is throwing his thoughts into the ring about the Jussie Smollett controversy with explosive comments on TNT, advising viewers to “not commit crime with checks.”

During a panel with Shaquille O’Neil, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson at halftime of the Rockets-Lakers game, the outspoken Hall of Famer offered his take on possible NBA scenarios that had no chance of happening.

“Two black guys beating a black guy up,” Charles quipped, drawing shocked reactions from his Inside the NBA partners and off-camera crew. “Just thinking aloud.”

Then Shaq erupted in nervous laughter and banged the desk, while Ernie shook his head and muttered: “I can’t believe you, Chuck.”

“America, let me just tell you something,” Charles said. “Do not commit crimes with checks. If you’re gonna break the law, do not write a check. … Get cash, man. I never use the ATM. Now, I heard you can only get $200 … Gonna make a lot of stops at the ATM. … Do not write checks when you commit illegal activity.”

Chicago police said Jussie wrote a check for $3,500 to pay two bodybuilding Nigerian brothers to stage a homophobic and racist attack against him to help advance his career.
