Ted Bundy Survivor Speaks On Zac Efron’s Portrayal

Zac Efron is playing Ted Bundy, one of the world’s most notorious serial killers, in the film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.Producers are getting flack for “romanticizing” the killer, but one of his victims who survived her attack says it shouldn’t be any other way.

Kathy Kleiner Rubin was a 20-year-old sorority sister at Florida State University when Ted crept into her bedroom at 3 a.m. and beat her and her roommate with a club. Recently she spoke to TMZ about her relationship to the series of murders outlined in the new film.

“I believe that in order to show him exactly the way he was, it’s not really glorifying him, but it’s showing him, and when they do say positive and wonderful things about him … that’s what they saw, that’s what Bundy wanted you to see.”

Still, Belva Kent (the mother of one of Ted’s victims, Debra Jean Kent) has another opinion. Also referencing Netflix’s docuseries Conversations with a Killer, Belva said to People magazine, “It’s very disgusting to me… It’s kind of aggravating to me, but I just try to ignore it and move on.”
