Cher is incredibly grateful that she’s receiving the Kennedy Center Honors later this year, but she only wishes it were under a different president. In an interview with Page Six, the legend says she “wanted to get it so badly” during the Obama administration.

Instead, she’s receiving it under the Trump administration and is likely to be met with awkward sentiments. A regular at anti-Trump rallies and marches, Cher ranks among the most outspoken celebrities against the president. It’s unclear right now whether Trump will make an appearance at the honors — he certainly didn’t last year. 

Cher’s latest album, Dancing Queen, is a collection of ABBA songs and it’s already reached number one in over 20 countries worldwide. 

“I didn’t realize how intricate the music was,” she said. “I thought, ’Whoa! Benny has really got some stuff going on there: all these lines, and riff over riff over riff. And so I had more respect for them.”
