Was Trevor Noah Racist For Saying France’s World Cup Are African

Trevor Noah is getting some racist backlash after a comment he made following France’s victory in the World Cup.

“I get it, they have to say it’s the French team,” he said on The Daily Show. “But look at those guys. You don’t get that tan by hanging out in the south of France, my friends. Basically if you don’t understand, France is Africans’ backup team. Once Senegal and Nigeria got knocked out, that’s who we root for.”

Trevor said his comments in response to Obama’s comments about trying to look beyond race: “Just ask the French football team that just won the World Cup. … Not all of those folks looked like Gauls to me. But they’re French! They’re French,” Obama said in Johannesburg.

Users called Trevor crazy things — one even compared him to Hitler. Is that really necessary?
