Daniel Day-Lewis Receives Oscar Nomination for Final Film Role Before Retirement

Daniel Day-Lewis announced that his role in The Phantom Thread would be his last acting part before retiring. Thankfully, the Academy wanted to send him off with a nice gesture — and nominated him for the role.

“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years,” his rep wrote in a statement to ET at the time of his retirement. “This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”

We’re gonna miss you, Daniel!
