It’s crazy to think that it’s only been a year since Carrie Fisher passed away. The beloved Princess Leia was an international treasure, and slews of memorials have been displayed in her honor since her passing — prompting hilarious memories and old interviews.

Back in 2011, Fisher revealed to Newsweek that when she signed onto Star Wars, she signed away her likeness for free: “The identity of Princess Leia so eclipses any other identity that I’ve ever had,” she said.

In the stage version of Wishful Drinking, she said, “George Lucas ruined my life, and I mean that in the nicest way possible.”

Carrie and her mom Debbie Reynolds were inseparable. The photographer who shot a famous photo of Carrie watching Debbie at 6 years old in 1963 recalled to PEOPLE: “I remember [Debbie] just sat there for the whole performance. It wasn’t like she was there for two minutes then ran away or started to cry,” Lawrence Schiller said. “She was just mesmerized by her mother.”

Photo editor Doris Brautigan said: “I remember when I saw it I thought it was stunning, and said a lot about her relationship with her mother, of course. … Her mother was always a part of her persona and her comedy, so it seemed very relevant. Jim Seymore, who was the editor of Entertainment Weekly at the time, he liked it so much he put it [on a] full page.”
