This Turtle Had $53 million Worth of Cocaine Attached to It

The U.S. Coast Guard found a giant sea turtle in a rope attached to packages containing $53 million worth of cocaine. The Coast Guard cutter Thetis, stationed in Key West, Fla., came across the turtle trying to escape from the 26 bales of cocaine.

Apparently, the turtle suffered from significant chafing in its neck and fingers, and the team had to carefully cut the lines of the rope wrapped around it to set it free.

Commander Jose Diaz told NBC News no suspects connected to the turtle’s ordeal have been arrested, but smugglers likely left the contraband in a hurry.
