Elton John’s mom, Sheila Farebrother, has died shortly after the two rebuilt their relationship.

“So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton,” he wrote on Twitter.

Circumstances around her death weren’t explained, but we do now that the singer had just reconciled with Sheila after decade-long estrangement. “So happy we are back in touch,” he wrote in a Mother’s Day photo this year.
