If you’ve been following the demise of Harvey Weinstein, you’re pretty much front row in Hollywood’s greatest story. The latest turn of events is all the celebrities coming out against Harvey, and standing beside the victims who’ve claimed he sexually harassed them over the decades.

Jennifer Lawrence, George Clooney, Jessica Chastain, Meryl Streep, and more have all come out. All of them have worked with Harvey — Meryl even referred to him as “God” in an acceptance speech.

Jennifer Lawrence also thanked him when she won an Oscar, saying “Thank you Harvey for killing whoever you killed so that I can win an Oscar.”

George told The Daily Beast that Harvey’s actions were “indefensible.” Adding: “That’s the only word you can start with… He gave me my first big break as a director with ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.’ We’ve had dinners, we’ve been on location together, we’ve had arguments. But I can tell you that I’ve never seen any of this behavior—ever.”

While George admitted to hearing rumors in the 1990s about this sort of behavior, he only heard “certain actresses had slept with Harvey to get a role.”

George continued: “It seemed like a way to smear the actresses and demean them by saying that they didn’t get the jobs based on their talent, so I took those rumors with a grain of salt. But the other part of this, the part we’re hearing now about eight women being paid off, I didn’t hear anything about that and I don’t know anyone that did. That’s a whole other level and there’s no way you can reconcile that. There’s nothing to say except that it’s indefensible.”

He also said: “This is an interesting moment. I’ve seen a lot of people, from Meryl [Streep] to Judi Dench, come out and say ‘holy s—t,’ and I think that that’s been the reaction by a lot of people in Hollywood… I don’t think that people were looking the other way; I think that people weren’t looking, because in some ways, a lecherous guy with money picking up younger girls is unfortunately not a news story in our society.”

Jennifer Lawrence told Variety: “I worked with Harvey five years ago and I did not experience any form of harassment personally, nor did I know about any of these allegations. This kind of abuse is inexcusable and absolutely upsetting… My heart goes out to all of the women affected by these gross actions. And I want to thank them for their bravery to come forward.”

Jessica Chastain said she’d heard rumors from the get-go:

“I was warned from the beginning. The stories were everywhere. To deny that is to create an environment for it to happen again,” she tweeted.
