ABC Exec on Why They Chose Arie Luyendyk Jr. As The Next ‘Bachelor’

After the announcement that Arie Lyuendyk Jr. was going to be the next Bachelor, fans were a bit stunned. But ABC’s network executives aren’t really listening.

“The timing seems right,” Robert Mills, ABC’s Senior Vice President of Alternative Series, Specials & Late-Night Programming, told ET. “He’s incredibly sincere. He’s dated a lot of women since Emily [Maynard], but he says he’s never been in love since Emily, and that’s a really interesting story to try to bring to completion this season on The Bachelor.”

Many had thought the next bachelor was going to be Peter Kraus from last season’s The Bachelorette, but Robert said it wasn’t meant to be.
