RENT changed the landscape of musical theater for the better, and now Fox has pushed its live adaption to air late 2018 — that’s a long ways away!

Meanwhile, Marc Platt is producing A Christmas Story, which will air live starring Maya Rudolph in a leading role! He will also be producing the live musical adaption of Rent.

“Honestly, Marc has really been focusing on A Christmas Story; it’s a big production to mount,” Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. “He’s been working with Julie [Larson], and they’ve had some preliminary conversations, but haven’t gone out to any talent yet. Actually, we’ll probably think first about a director.”

“I’m not 100 percent sure,” Walden said of getting original cast. “I know that the conversations Marc had are very much about celebrating the original and the legacy of Jonathan Larson, and whether that involves having one of the original cast members and incorporating that character into the narrative, I’m not sure yet, but I’d be excited about that.”
