Tom Sturridge Had to Leave Broadway’s ‘1984’ on a Stretcher, WTF!

Okay, since when did Broadway turn into the 1970s film Exorcist — making people vomit, faint, and get taken out by a stretcher?! You guys remember last week when Jennifer Lawrence vomited during a performance of 1984?

Well now, actor Tom Sturridge was apparently taken out of a performance on a stretcher, reports Page Six!

“Sturridge collapsed over the weekend onstage during a torture scene. It was wild. He was dehydrated and taken out on a stretcher.” Also, “Two ladies fainted in the audience,” a source told PS. Tom stars alongside Olivia Wilde in the wildly controversial show about government control.

“Tom seemed a little out of it as the end of the play neared — but he kept going. When the curtain was brought down, the cast didn’t come out for bows.” Instead, “there was an announcement asking if there was a doctor in the house.” A doctor and nurse went backstage, but, “EMTs were also seen entering the theater, where Sturridge was treated.”

Tom definitely returned to the show for the final two performances of the weekend, and “his co-stars Olivia Wilde and Reed Birney, and other cast mates, made sure there was a lot of water backstage.”

Since the show opened, there have been reports of people collapsing, vomiting, even going crazy, due to its graphic content — including an apparently disturbing scene involving a rat.
