Daniel Day-Lewis is calling it quits.

Leslee Dart, a spokeswoman for the actor, said in a statement released on Tuesday:

“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”

The 60-year-old is the only actor to win three Academy Awards in the Best Actor category. He received the prestigious award for his roles in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln.

The star has taken lengthy breaks from acting in the past, but this announcement of retirement is a first. He recently finished shooting Phantom Thread, which is scheduled for release at the end of this year,

The London-born actor is married to writer/director Rebecca Miller, who is a daughter of Arthur Miller. The couple tied the knot 1996, and share two sons.

Let’s hope he’s just setting the scene for an epic encore!
