‘The Bachelorette’ Alum Michael Nance Is Dead At 31
A beloved member of Bachelor Nation has passed away.
Michael Nance, who appeared as a contestant on Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette, has died unexpectedly at age 31.
According to People, the Austin Police Department received a 911 call just after 2 p.m. on Monday, May 29. When they arrived on the scene, Michael was unresponsive, and after being rushed to hospital, he was pronounced dead.
At this time, no cause of death has been revealed. An autopsy will be performed today and the toxicology results will take weeks.
Michael was on season 8 of the ABC series when he was 26 years old. In his introduction footage he revealed that he had struggled in the past with abusing prescription painkillers. He said:
“Right now, life is good, but I haven’t put as much focus on my love life because the way I was a couple years ago, no one would have wanted to be around me. I was addicted to prescription pain medicine. It all starts out fun and then somewhere along the road, it just turned into something else. It’s a vicious cycle and it ate away at me for a long time.”
He continued:
“I’m almost two years sober, now, and it’s not that easy — you have to completely change your way of living. But my life is really, really good today. … I’m happy and I’m content, but there are things missing in my life. I would like to find my soulmate.”
After hearing of Michael’s passing, several Bachelorette stars took to Twitter to express their sympathy.
