Kirsten Dunst has no problem saying no.

When director Sophia Coppola asked her to lose some weight for her role in the upcoming film, The Beguiled, the actress said just that.

During an interview with Variety, Kirsten shared her point of view on her longtime collaborator’s request. She said, “It’s so much harder when you’re 35 and hate working out.” The star said the film’s location in rural Louisiana was a major factor. She explained, “I’m eating fried chicken and McDonald’s before work. So I’m like, ‘We have no options! I’m sorry I can’t lose weight for this role.'”

In the gothic thriller, which premiers this month at Cannes, Kirsten plays a teacher who cares for an injured Civil War soldier played by Colin Farrell. Kirsten and Sophia previously worked together on 1999’s Virgin Suicides and 2006’s Marie Antoinette.

Actresses being asked to lose weight is certainly nothing new. Emma Thompson recently shared that she almost walked off the set of Brideshead Revisted when a producer asked her costar to shed some pounds, and Jennifer Lawrence has shared that she has been threatened to be fired if she didn’t slim down.

Good for you for standing your ground, Kirsten!
