J.K. Rowling Begs Harry Potter Fans Not to Buy Handwritten Copy Stolen in Burglary

J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to rally Harry Potter fans in helping to solve a series case involving a handwritten copy of a Harry Potter prequel that was stolen in a burglary last month.

“PLEASE DON’T BUY THIS IF YOU’RE OFFERED IT,” she tweeted. “Originally auctioned for @englishpen, the owner supported writers’ freedoms by bidding for it.”

The story was personally written by J.K. and was auctioned off for charity, only to get stolen from the buyer’s home last month. And the whole reason why the buyer bought it, as J.K. said, was to protect the freedom of writers.

“The only people who will buy this unique piece are true Harry Potter fans. We are appealing to anyone who sees, or is offered this item for sale, to contact police,” the West Midlands Police in England tweeted. “We hare asking Harry Potter fans to help share our appeal after a rare Harry Potter prequel was stolen.”
