This was something we did not ever want to happen.

Watching Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick go after each other is like watching our favorite grandmothers or aunties clawing one another. They’re legends and they both have a special space in history.

That being said, Aretha apparently is reigniting a 5-year old feud due to comments Dionne said at Whitney Houston’s funeral in 2012.

Aretha blasted Dionne for spinning a story about the Queen of Soul not being present at the funeral.

“She blatantly lied on me . . . fully well knowing what she was doing,” Aretha said this week.

At the funeral, Dionne apparently called out the fact that Aretha wasn’t there by saying: “Ree’s not here, but she is here. She loves Whitney as if she were born to her. She is her godmother.”

Aretha said she wasn’t there due to swollen feet, yet she was able to hold her own at a concert at Radio City Music Hall that night.

Cissy Houston later confirmed that Aretha was not Whitney’s godmother to the media.

“There’s been so much going on around her [Houston], around the service, around the drugs, around her and [Whitney’s ex-husband] Bobby [Brown] . . . I didn’t want to add anything to that,” Aretha said.

At the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, Aretha brought up the feud, saying: “[Dionne] said, ‘Give me a hug,’ I said, ‘Oh hell no. You couldn’t be serious.’  We’ve never been friends and I don’t think that Dionne has ever liked me.”

In a statement, Warwick’s rep said she would not “dignify a response” to Aretha’s remarks.
