Elton John Cancels Shows Due To Frightening Illness

Elton John had a quite a scare!

The iconic singer is recovering from an extremely rare bacterial infection that sent him to the hospital. The star contracted the infection while on tour in South America and became severely ill on his flight home from Santiago, Chile. Upon landing in the UK, he spent two nights in the intensive care unit followed by and an “extended” stay in the hospital.

As a result of the potentially deadly condition, Elton was forced to cancel 9 performances of his residency show, “The Million Dollar Piano” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The venue took to Facebook to relay the news. See below:

Thankfully, according to the statement, Elton is now at home and is expected to make a full recovery.

Elton said in a statement:

“I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”

The 70-year-old took to Instagram yesterday to share his gratitude for all the support he has received. See below:

Elton plans to perform on June 3 in Twickenham, England, and resume the “The Million Dollar Piano” show in October until it completes its run of almost 7 years in May of 2018.
