Former NFL Player Aaron Hernandez Dead at 27 After Hanging Himself in Prison
Former New England Patriots football player Aaron Hernandez, 27, killed himself in prison early this morning in his solo prison cell at Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Mass.
The NFL player was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd.
According to a statement by the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, Aaron had attempted to block his cell door by jamming items into it from the inside before using his bed sheet to hang himself.
When he was found by correction officers, he was taken to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead.
He was sentenced in 2015 after being found guilty of killing Odin, who was dating his fiancee’s sister at the time.
Hernandez is survived by his 4-year-old daughter, Avielle Janelle Jenkins-Hernandez.
