David Letterman Gave a Touching Eulogy at His Mother’s Funeral

Following the death of David Letterman’s mom, Dorothy Mengering, a regular on his late night show, the world felt like they lost their own mother.

At her funeral this weekend, David spoke about how hard working she was, saying she was tough enough to kill a snake and that her appearances on his show rivaled his own popularity.

“My mother is Grizzly Adams, for God’s sake,” he said after sharing a story about her hacking off the head of a snake in their garden.

After Dorothy’s first appearances on the show, David said executives approached him and said: “We should have your mother on the show all the time… No, we’re serious. People like her better than you.”

Speaking on her work ethic, he remembered: “We didn’t want for anything because of my mom.”

Dorothy died at the age of 95 at her Carmel, Indiana home last week.

Rest in peace, Dorothy.
