Will Smith was a total dad this week after taking a very important issue into his own hands: his son Jaden Smith’s dreadlocks!

And by taking it in his own hands, we mean that literally.

Will chopped off his son’s dreads and recorded himself holding them with pride on Facebook. The 18-year old Jaden has been rocking the dreads for nearly three years now, so naturally it was a big deal to see them go.

“Getting Jaden Smith ready for the first day of filming #LifeInAYear… maybe I should’ve used scissors?!” Will wrote.
