Of Course, ‘SNL’ Spoofs Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi Ad & It’s GENIUS

Leave it to Saturday Night Live to bring the Kendal Jenner Pepsi controversy to a full on laugh party.

In case you need a reminder, Kendal Jenner’s Pepsi ad — where the reality star is seen giving a police officer a Pepsi in the middle of a protest — has been seen as dry and insensitive to many, so much so that Pepsi was forced to pull the ad and issue an apology (of sorts).

Well, here comes SNL

In the sketch, which aired last night, the Pepsi ad’s director (played by Beck Bennett) discusses the commercial with his sister over the phone:

“It’s an homage to the resistance. There’s this huge protest in the street, reminiscent of Black Lives Matter,” he said. “Everybody is marching and they get to these police officers and you think it’s going to go bad because there’s kind of a standoff. And then Kendall Jenner walks in. She walks up to one of the police officers and hands him a Pepsi. That Pepsi brings everyone together.”

There’s a pause, and he responds, “Sort of tone deaf?”

Cecily Strong, who plays Kendal also ends up trying to explain it too: “I stop the police from shooting black people by handing them a Pepsi. I know, it’s cute, right?”
