Chris Christie Blames the American People for Current Political Climate

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared to blame the current political climate on Twitter trolls while speaking at a conference for real-estate billionaire Jeff Greene.

“Politicians are simple people,” he said. “As much as you may hate to hear this in the current context, if you want to see who we are and what we do: Hold up a mirror. We are a reflection of you. It’s not what we put out, it’s what comes back at us. When tweeting about a substantive issue, I got responses like ‘lose weight,’ ‘when are you just going to go away?’ I’m telling you, these are exact quotes. ‘How does your family live with you?’ ‘You should be in jail’ . . . That’s not me, that’s you . . . If you want to know where the coarseness in today’s politics comes from, it comes from you.”

According to a guest at the event, their impression of Chris was that he “seemed kind of sad” about the Twitter abuse.

However, Chris’s spokesman Brian Murray insisted that he wasn’t sad, reports Page Six: “The scenario you described is inaccurate and flat-out wrong,” Brian said. “In fact, during the speech, there was frequent laughter as he spoke of the challenges of forging compromise in Washington, DC. Nothing like a therapy session at all, unless it was laugh therapy.”
