Sen. Chuck Schumer Loses it With a Trump Supporter at Swanky Restaurant

The senior United States senator from New York (and second cousin to comedian Amy Schumer) Chuck Schumer is not afraid to take his arguments from the floor to the streets, especially when the guy is trying to enjoy a nice dinner on the Upper East Side with friends!

While the Democratic senator was out at Sette Mezzo, a nice restaurant in New York City, with friends, Joseph A. Colifano Jr. (a Democrat, and former U.S. secretary of health, education and welfare under Jimmy Carter) and his wife were also having a dinner.

Things were cool enough, until witnesses say that Chuck kept getting increasingly angry that Joseph’s wife Hilary (the daughter of William S. Paley, founder and chairman of CBS) had voted for Trump despite that her husband is a Democrat.

According to sources at Page Six, Chuck started instigating the couple, yelling, “She voted for Trump!” Eventually, the Califanos got so uncomfortable that they had to leave, but that didn’t stop Chuck — he followed them outside!

“How could you vote for Trump? He’s a liar!” he kept telling Hilary. “He’s a liar!”

Hilary spoke to Page Six and confirmed that the altercation, in fact, did take place: “Sen. Schumer was really rude,” she said. “He’s our senator, and I don’t really like him. Yes, I voted for Trump. Schumer joined us outside and he told me Trump was a liar. I should have told him that Hillary Clinton was a liar, but I was so surprised I didn’t say anything.”

However, another witness told Page Six that it was Joseph and Hilary who approached Chuck first.

“It was a pleasant conversation,” the witness said. “Joe said the senator was doing a good job on health care. Joe joked that Hilary voted for Trump. The conversation continued outside because everyone left at the same time.”

A spokesperson for Chuck said, “[He] and his wife ate at the café on Sunday, engaging in unremarkable conversation with patrons who approached their table. There were no heated exchanges with ‎anyone.”

On Monday, Chuck called for the removal of Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) as chairman of House Intelligence Committee, and consistently said that he and Democrats will filibuster Judge Nil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
