Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out is one of this year’s biggest hits, and as of last weekend the film surpassed the $100 million mark. That means Jordan has become the first Black writer/director to pass that mark with a debut feature film, according to BlackFilm.com.

Known for being half of the comedy duo “Key and Peele,” the ever humble Jordan wrote on Twitter that he’s “the first of many,” and “meaning I won’t be the last.”

Other Black directors have seen their films surpass $100 million, such as Clark Johnson’s S.W.A.T., but no one has done it with their own screenplays. The most amazing part of this whole thins is that Jordan reached this milestone in only 16 days!

Get Out is a horror flick with a very loud message. Filmed on a $4.5 million budget with a cast of new-comers, it’s keeping up with other films led by people of color with A-list names behind them.

Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight won an Oscar for best picture, best adapted screenplay, and best supporting actor for Mahershala Ali. Hidden Figures was another Oscar contender that earned $163 million at the box office.

Now this is something to celebrate. Congratulations, Jordan!
