The world is still mourning the loss of Carrie Fisher, and James Blunt is no exception.

The singer was extremely close to the iconic actress. So tight, in fact, that Carrie was the godmother of James’ young son, and the reality that he will never get to know her is heartbreaking to James. He told People, “She’s the most amazing person I know and I’m really desperately sad he won’t get to know her but I have many memories, many stories I’ll be able to tell him.”

When asked for an example of a story, James laughed and said,  “I don’t know if any of them are safe enough to tell on camera.” Sounds about right!

He also told People, “I live with her whenever I’m in the states, whenever I’m in Los Angeles, her house has been my home and I recorded my first album in her house. [2004 hit ‘Goodbye My Lover] I recorded in her bathroom, where she had a piano – like you do.”

James had previously told The Sunday Times that he thought of Carrie as his “American mother.” He added, “She’s been a really creative input on my music… she was an amazing person, and terribly sad that she’s gone so early,” though he feels that, “She went out at the top.”

We’re looking forward to James’ new album, The Afterlove, which comes out later this month. We’re sure Carrie would be very proud to know how much she continues to impact him.
