Kesha has always been vocal about what she believes in, and she has just lent her voice to another good cause.

In honor of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, the singer participated in a public service announcement encouraging those who suffer to get help. Kesha knows what dealing with the disease is like, and has been open in the past about her personal struggle. In May of 2015 she told Vogue,

“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. It’s been quite a journey. I went to a dark place. There was a lot of not eating—and I started to think being hungry to the point of feeling almost faint was a positive thing.”

The PSA opens with quote from Kesha on the screen that says, “I had an eating disorder that threatened my life, and I was very afraid to confront it. I got sicker, and the whole world kept telling me how much better I looked. That’s why I realized I wanted to be part of the solution.”

Her voiceover goes on to say, “Eating disorders are a life-threatening illness that can affect anyone. It doesn’t matter your age, your sex, your ethnicity. Eating disorders don’t discriminate.”

She also posted on Facebook, encouraging others to seek help, and remember that “Recovery is possible.”
